Ryan King, A 10-year-old who has spina bifida, always has to miss out on field trips. Usually her teachers just set up an alternative activity for her, because she is confined to a wheel chair. This school year she got a permission slip to go on a hiking field trip in Ohio. Ryan told her mom that she wanted to go. So her mother planned on carrying her on her back in a backpack-like holder so that she could go. Well, a teacher at Ryan's school found out that Ryan wanted to go, and said that he would carry Ryan on his back for the field trip. Jim Freeman, Ryan's teacher, carried her on his back in 90 degree weather on this hike for an hour. Such a great example of taking care of each other.
