'Tis the season for Christmas music and for new Christmas music too! Elton John and Ed Sheeran are here to bring us some.
The two have released a festive "Love Actually" themed video announcing their holiday collaboration, "Merry Christmas" out Fri 3 Dec with all proceeds from this year's Christmas period going to the Ed Sheeran Suffolk Music Foundation & the Elton John Aids Foundation."
Sheeran then quote tweeted it with a red heart.
The video shows Sheeran knocking on John's door with note cards in his hand -- just like Andrew Lincoln's character did to confess his love for Keira Knightley's "Love Actually" character. This time though, the cards read, "Hello. Last Christmas I received a call from my mate Elton John and he told me we should do a 'Christmas Song.' And I replied 'Yeah. Maybe in 2022.' But I actually wrote the chorus that day and here we are. Our Christmas song 'Merry Christmas' is out this Friday. Go pre-order or pre-save it now. It has sleigh bells. A lot of them…."
Fittingly, the artwork for the track shows Sheeran placing a "rocket man" astronaut tree topper on his tree as John smiles and looks on, holding a giant candy cane.
