The Calhoun County, Alabama Sheriff’s Department is reporting the death of at least three people following a tornado that swept across the state this afternoon. The fatalities happened in the town of Ohatchee, about sixty miles northeast of Birmingham. Other injuries have also been reported.
Significant damage is reported in many towns along the path of the storm which stretches from Birmingham to near the Georgia border.
The National Weather Service says that the region will remain under severe weather watches and warnings throughout the evening.
