A sad day indeed. Not only did Elvis die on this day in 1977, but Aretha Franklin, The Queen of Soul, and one of the greatest singers of all time, passed away today at the age of 76. She had been suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer.
Aretha was an American treasure. You'd be hard pressed to find someone who had'n heard her rendition of the song "RESPECT." With a career that spanned more than 65 years, 18 Grammy's, 20 #1 singles, and 45 songs on the Billboard charts, Aretha Franklin leaves a legacy that will stand the test of time. Truly an ICON. May she rest in peace. #RIP
