Meet the Bystander Who Rescued the Driver From the Roy Car/Plane Crash

On Tuesday afternoon, a small plane crashed into the back of a vehicle in Roy. An off-duty police officer pulled the pilot from the plane and construction worker Darrel Illum rescued the driver from the car. Moments later, both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

Ilum, who is also a former firefighter said, “I just heard a big bang and I just ran and yelled 'call 911' and ran up to the car.”

He pulled the visibly shaken woman from the car then even went back to save her purse. "I’ve been married 22 years and I know my wife needs her purse, so I ran over and got her purse," Illum said.
