What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a medication, first approved by the FDA in 1970 as a sedative. It is a popular anesthetic because Ketamine, unlike most other anesthetics, does not depress the respiratory system. This means it will not affect a patient’s breathing.

Recent research shows Ketamine, at low doses, provides a profound improvement in a variety of mental illnesses.

Can Ketamine therapy be used to treat depression and anxiety?

Yes, Ketamine has been shown to be very effective at treating depression and anxiety. Ketamine does this by repairing damaged neural pathways by stimulating glutamate production. Glutamate is a prominent brain chemical that helps neurons communicate with one another. In essence, Ketamine allows the brain to “rewire” itself. Ketamine helps create new pathways (that facilitate new ways of thinking) that are resistant to stress, anxiety, and depression. Ketamine may also reduce signals responsible for inflammation. Inflammation may contribute to depressive symptoms. Inflammation is also the main culprit in chronic pain conditions.

Is Ketamine therapy addictive?

Ketamine is not physically addictive. It can be potentially abusable but not in a therapeutic setting.

Will I require Ketamine therapy long-term?

We encourage people to have a therapist during the duration of their Ketamine treatment plan to process anything that may come up. Some people do the series of 6 treatments then need boosters every few months. Every client responds differently to the combination of ketamine and therapy and it is important to work closely with both providers to reevaluate your needs on an ongoing basis.

Will my insurance company cover my Ketamine treatment?

No, it is not covered by insurance at this time.
