Janet Barmore has been in love with diners since her first job as a teenager in Bountiful. Today she owns a staple that's served North Salt Lake for 16 years, and she needs help!
Janet's Sunshine Cafe on South Orchard Drive became her dream come true in 2005. It only seats 37 people at a time, but it serves hundreds throughout each week as the dining area is almost always packed as people pile in for Janet's signature granola pancakes. Janet runs her kitchen, making everything from scratch and with love. That's why her being in the hospital for a week is putting the cafe on the brink. Sunshine been closed ever since she got sick.
"I know many of you have come to the café as a place where you know you can come for a good meal, a good time, and probably some Janet wisdom too," Katie Tucker, an employee, said. "Her food and her café are like home to most of us and we keep coming back for more! I’m sure some of us even grew up only knowing Sunshine on Saturdays."
Tucker started a GoFundMe to help "give a little “Sunshine” back to Janet in her time of need," and to keep the cafe afloat until Janet is healthy enough to return to work. In just one day the community has raised nearly $7,000.
