Last week, University of Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari tweeted a photo of a coal miner who was sitting in the stands at a game with his son. He was still in his work clothes and covered in coal dust. The coach said the man reminded him of his grandfather, who was a coal miner. “My family’s American dream started in a Clarksburg, WV coal mine, so this picture hits home.”
Coach Calipari said if anyone knew the man, he’d like to give his family a VIP experience at an upcoming game. Fans identified the dad as Michael McGuire. Michael’s wife says he started work at 4:45am that morning and worked all day. He had two choices: Shower and miss half the game, or show up as is. He drove straight to the arena.
