#GoodNews: Thousands of Used Bikes Go to Kids Instead of the Dump

Bike-sharing company oBike withdrew from the Singapore market in June 2018. Entrepreneur Mike Than Tun Win was heartbroken by the mountains of discarded bicycles that were left behind. “It felt extremely sad for me to see all these bicycles piling up in junkyard.” He thought about all the young kids he saw every day walking long distances to school in rural villages – some of them had to walk up to 1 hour each way just to get to school. He set up a non-profit and is in the process of buying 10,000 bikes from the company. He converts them from electrical to manual and will donate them to the kids.
