Rihanna is reportedly planning to attend A$AP Rocky's gun assault trial this week.
Rocky's attorney Jose Tacopina confirmed Riri's intention to support the father of her two children during the second day of the rapper's trial on Tuesday, January 28. According to TMZ, the singer and entrepreneur is expected to appear in a courtroom in Los Angeles this Wednesday. She will have to sit in the gallery with other ordinary people who plan to witness the proceedings. Her attendance is expected to cause a lot of commotion in the courthouse, especially after she was a hot topic of discussion during jury selection.
Last week, potential jurors were asked if they were fans of A$AP Rocky and Rihanna's music. They were also asked if they bought products from any of Rih's businesses including Fenty Beauty and Savage x Fenty. Potential jurors and alternates also had to reveal whether or not they would be swayed one way or another if Rihanna was sitting in the courtroom. In the end, seven women and five men were selected. Only white, Asian and Latin people were selected with no representation from a Black juror.
A$AP Rocky is facing two felony charges of assault with a firearm after his former friend Terell Ephron, formerly known as A$AP Relli, accused him of shooting at him during an argument in 2021. Rocky was arrested in 2022 and pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors believe the "D.M.B." rapper fired gunshots that grazed and injured Relli's hand. Rocky's attorneys think Relli's claims are part of an extortion plot. They plan to call on witnesses who will testify that Rocky was carrying a prop gun that day for security reasons.
Prosecutors recently offered the rapper a plea deal, which would have made him plead guilty to one of the charges and serve 180 days of jail time. However, he turned it down because he thought it would end his career and decided to take his chances at trial. If convicted, he faces up to 24 years in prison.
