Dakota Fanning is reflecting on her time growing up as as child star, specifically looking back at all of the questions she was asked that she now recognizes as "super inappropriate."
From a young age, Fanning was booked and busy, starring in movies like Uptown Girls, Sweet Home Alabama and War of the Worlds, after beginning her acting career at just 6 years old. In a new chat with The Cut, she is reflecting on how she would be uncomfortable in interviews when she was younger, especially when "people would ask super inappropriate questions," per Page Six.
"I was in an interview as a child and somebody asked, 'How could you possibly have any friends?'" she recalled, adding that she is confused by why someone would ask that of a child.
To the Watchers star, who was left feeling "a little bit guarded," it felt like the public was "wanting" her to "fail or something," and experience the struggles that other child stars seemed to go through and who were "made into examples." However, she said she was probably "a little too young for it to fully hit [her]" as the public perception seemed to be changing.
"People couldn't get away with that kind of thing so much anymore," she said, adding, "By the time I got to that age, it was sort of being recognized as probably not the best way to treat people."
