A man was arrested in Utah after waving a knife at drivers on I-15, causing a massive crash, reported KSL.
Police were called to I-15 in Lehi on March 31st for reports of an armed man who "was waving the knife at vehicles and caused a six-car accident with injuries."
The man, who was running north on the freeway, got off on a frontage road. According to the affidavit, when police confronted the man, he told them to shoot him.
The man didn't stop running. The affidavit states that he "ran toward the vehicles on the frontage road that were occupied by civilians. Traffic was forced to stop on the frontage road due to Edwin's behavior. A K-9 officer was traveling south on the frontage road and deployed his dog. Edwin was now on the street in traffic when the dog bit and latched onto Edwin's right arm."
The man allegedly told the officers that he would throw the knife at them.
When the knife was taken from the man, he was handcuffed and taken into custody.
The man was identified as 29-year-old Edwin Cordova, who is homeless.
Cordova was moved into the Utah County Jail on Monday. He was booked for investigation of assault against police, two counts of criminal mischief, four counts of disorderly conduct, failing to stop at the command of police, interfering with an arrest, failing to disclose his identity, and being a pedestrian blocking a freeway.
