Life-Size Replica Of Utah's Monolith On Display As Christmas Decor

Utah's famous monolith may be gone now, but one community member has put up a replica as a part of a Christmas display.

Robbie Gowers created the life-size replica of the monolith with his neighbor for his home Christmas display on Wakefield Way in West Valley City.

He says that the monolith is all in good fun.

He told KSL, "I'd like to see how far we can go with it. We were joking around, you know, if we could create this and bring this here, maybe we could get a bunch of people over here to see the lights and come see it, get their pictures with it and spread our cause of what we're doing with the lights and the display."

Gowers has hosted lights events like this in the past, raising charitable donations for the Mascot Miracles Foundation.

Traffic this year has been a bit lighter in the midst of the ongoing pandemic, however, so donations have been sparse. The monolith is definitely helping to draw people back in.

Gowers told iHeart, "It seems to have helped for sure. People are even stopping during the day to take pictures. Our original plan was to do something out of the ordinary to get attention, and to get people out of their cars and hoping they would donate. Without being able to do our big events or stand out and hand out candy canes, the donations have been tough."

Several have stopped to take pictures of the replica.
