School teacher Jane Elliott first gave her “Blue Eyes - Brown Eyes” exercise on April 5, 1968 to a class of third grade students to teach them about discrimination. The students with blue eyes were given collars to wear and were told they couldn’t play with the students with brown eyes during recess. The blue-eyed students felt they were less intelligent than their brown-eyed classmates until the roles were reversed.
In 1992, Jane conducted the same “Blue Eyes - Brown Eyes” exercise on an Oprah Winfrey Show audience without their knowledge.
