Michael McKnight was on a 23 mile run on Antelope Island when he came across a bison. McKnight kept his distance, but the bison was standing its ground and started to run toward him.
“He leaned forward and started charging. I could definitely feel the ground moving. There was a lot of force behind that animal,” McKnight said. “I thought, for sure, he was going to hit me to the ground and trample me.”
McKnight was able to make a quick turn just in time. Park rangers advise to stay 100 yards away from bison as they can run at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour.
