Nevest Coleman spent more than 20 years in prison for a rape and murder he didn’t commit and last year, DNA evidence led prosecutors to vacate his conviction in the 1994 crime. He was released in November after spending 23 years behind bars and now the former White Sox groundskeeper is going back to his old job.
Coleman helped land his job thanks to his childhood priest, who reached out to the White Sox on his behalf. They team welcomed Coleman back after an interview and he’s grateful to have his independence back.“I don’t have to worry about everybody giving me things,” Coleman says. “I can support myself now.” And the White Sox say they’re grateful that “justice has been carried out for Nevest.”
