Listener Mindy lost her daughter last year. Please read her story and be a part of this, if you can.
My name is Mindy Graham and my 8 year old daughter, Macie died November 16, 2013 from osteosarcoma (bone cancer) and doxorubicin toxicity (chemotherapy damage) she went into heart failure.
The reason I am seeking your help, the mascots if Utah's sports teams have joined together to bring joy to kids with life threatening illnesses. It all started with my baby. They organized her 8 th birthday party. They brought Belle and had a Belle gown made just for my Macie, even a wig! Felix the Falcon from the women's football team The Utah Falconz took her under his wing. He organized a horse drawn carriage to drive her through our neighborhood in a parade. 9 of Utah's mascots came to her party and were in the parade. Macie loved Felix from the get go. She was an honored guest on the sidelines of the mascot bowl, she clung to him at CureSearch, she was chosen to shave the head of one if his football players when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The night she went into the hospital for what turned out to be the last time, she asked for Felix. She had never seen the man behind the mask, but the minute he walked in she knew who he was. We don't know how, they must have just had a unique bond. Felix came back 2 days later and was there when she took her last breath. "The Zoo" (our mascots) were her pallbearers and honored her in the most precious way. Since then, they have created the Mascot Miracle Foundation and go around visiting our sick babies, granting dreams and providing countless smiles and memories. I am appealing to all media connections I possibly can to bring my daughters story to the world and to help bring awareness to childhood cancer as well as promote our treasured zoo. Please help me bring this story to the world! Thank you so very much!
