Time for a New Design? Utah’s State Flag Is an ‘S.O.B.’

Vexillology is the study of flags and “The Utah flag is considered by these vexillologists to be an ‘S.O.B.’ — seal on a bedsheet,” said Rep. Steve Handy, R-Layton.

The current Utah state flag design is more than 100 years old and goes against many of the design principles in flag design. The flag includes a bald eagle, arrows, a beehive and sego lilies on a white shield. The design also incorporates two United States flags, the words “Industry” and “Utah” plus the dates 1847 and 1896.

Rep. Steve Handy wants to get public input on a new flag design before he presents the ideas before the 2020 legislative session.

What do you think, does Utah need a new flag?
