THE STATE HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORTS, 545 PEOPLE TOOK THEIR OWN LIVES... UP NEARLY A HUNDRED -- FROM 456 -- IN 2011.

HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY OUR STATE SUICIDE RATE HAS REMAINED HIGHER THAN THE NATIONAL RATE, FOR MORE THAN A DECADE... AND IS CURRENTLY THE SEVENTH HIGHEST IN THE COUNTRY.

THE NEW NUMBERS SHOW, MALES HAVE A HIGHER RATE OF SUICIDE THAN WOMEN, WITH 34 PER 100,000 PEOPLE... AS COMPARED TO ABOUT 10 SUICIDES PER 100,000 PEOPLE FOR WOMEN.
