Lawmaker Wants to Strengthen Penalties for Vandals Who Damage Natural Wonders

Posted November 22nd, 2013 @ 11:37am by Talk Radio 105.7 FM / 570 AM

IT'S BEEN SIX WEEKS NOW, SINCE A PAIR OF UTAH COUNTY MEN WERE CAUGHT ON TAPE, TIPPING OVER A 200-MILLION-YEAR OLD ROCK STRUCTURE, AT GOBLIN VALLEY STATE PARK.

BUT STILL, NO CRIMINAL CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED.

SOME STATE LAWMAKERS FEEL, EVEN IF PROSECUTORS DO GO AFTER THEM, THEIR PENALTIES WON'T BE STIFF ENOUGH -- BECAUSE OUR STATE LAWS ARE INADEQUATE.

OGDEN REPUBLICAN DIXON PITCHER IS DRAFTING LEGISLATION TO CHANGE THAT.  HE PROPOSES A FINE OF UP TO 15-THOUSAND DOLLARS -- AND POSSIBLY JAIL TIME -- FOR VANDALS WHO STRIKE NATURAL FORMATIONS IN OUR STATE.

THE GOBLIN VALLEY VANDALS WERE CAUGHT, AFTER POSTING A VIDEO OF THEIR STUNT, ON LINE.
