A CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION HAS OVERTURNED THE DEMOTION OF THE POLICE LIEUTENANT, WHO DIRECTED WEST VALLEY CITY'S DISBANDED NEIGHBORHOOD NARCOTICS UNIT.

THE COMMISSION ANNOUNCED THE DECISION THURSDAY MORNING, THAT JOHN COYLE WAS UNFAIRLY DEMOTED FROM HIS LIEUTENANT'S POSITION.

THE COMMISSION ALSO ORDERED THE WEST VALLEY CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT TO AWARD COYLE BACK PAY.

CITY OFFICIALS HAD HELD COYLE RESPONSIBLE, FOR THE DRUG UNIT'S FAILURE TO BOOK EVIDENCE... OR ACCOUNT FOR SOME DRUGS AND MONEY.

WEST VALLEY CITY POLICE CHIEF LEE RUSSO SAYS HE'S DISAPPOINTED WITH THE DECISION.

AN APPEAL OF THE DECISION IS NOW BEING CONSIDERED.
