All 12 apartment units, in a single building, sustained damage early Tuesday morning, when the structure caught fire.

The cause of the blaze is still being investigated.  Authorities believe it began on an upper floor balcony.

A Davis County Sheriffs deputy spotted flames, while driving through the area, at 55 West, Center Street.  He reported the fire and stopped to assist with evacuation.

As a precaution, the deputy was taken to the hospital, for minor smoke inhalation.  That was the only injury.

Fire crews say only two apartments sustained fire damage.  But four others had water damage -- and all 12 sustained smoke damage.

The Red Cross -- and the apartment complex owners -- are assisting displaced residents in finding new places to live.
