The police officer was responding to a call near the 13000 block of Fort Street early Sunday morning. Dispatchers received a call around 6 a.m. reporting shots fired in the area. Officers discovered Sgt. Derek Johnson had been shot, he was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray where he died from his injuries. A man and woman were also found shot at the scene. Both were reported to be in critical condition.
Residents in the area were told to stay home unless they received a police escort. Draper Police Chief Bryan Roberts issued a statement: " This is a very tragic day for the Draper City Police Department. We want to reassure the residents that we are doing everything we can to keep residents safe." Police say there is no manhunt underway.
